Last Chance to Register for Tomorrow's Breakfast Featuring SWFL Economic Development Partners The EDC will hold a breakfast, “Southwest Florida: A Brighter Place,” at 7:45 a.m., Nov. 10 at the Heron Creek Golf and Country Club, 5301 Heron Creek Blvd., North Port. Attendees will learn how Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee, Glades and Collier counties are working together with other regional partners to market the assets of Southwest Florida and attract businesses to the area. The cost of the event, will includes a panel discussion with the president's of the economic development organizations in the region, is $20 for EDC investors, $30 for non-investors. Ringling International Design Summit Feb. 4-6 Ringling College of Art and Design presents its 4th annual Sarasota International Design Summit to be held February 4-6, 2010. The Summit will explore the convergence of Design + Business where the experts are solving today's critical issues through design-based business solutions. The Summit will showcase some of today’s most innovative design thinkers and global practitioners from TED Global, HGTV, GE Healthcare, Disney i.d.e.a.s. , School of Visuals Arts and many more on topics such as : • Using storytelling as part of designing solutions • How science uses design to create breakthrough technologies • New design strategies for social media solutions • Health care designing user experiences

Arts Council Announces New Executive Director The Sarasota County Arts Council announced the appointment of Jim Shirley as their new executive director. Jim is a long-time Sarasota resident with extensive ties to the arts and cultural community. He comes to the Arts Council from PAL Sailor Circus where he served as the Director of Development for five years. The Sarasota County Arts Council is a member-powered arts and cultural alliance passionate about building appreciation, participation and support for arts and culture. They are involved in moving the “design platform” of the economic development strategic plan forward.
