THE SARASOTA FILM FESTIVAL reminds us why we love the movies. Great films give us a chance to live someone else's life, to re-examine our own or simply to escape for 21/2 hours. [more]

RALLY IN TALLY for Incentives:
Jeanne Corcoran, our director of the Sarasota County Film & Entertainment Office, a division of the EDC, returned from this week’s “Rally in Tally” where she was a part of the Film Florida contingent of film commissioners from various counties and cities and private sector film production and industry people from around the State.  They personally visited dozens of state senators to ask for their support of Senate Bill 1430, as it works its way through the legislature, which seeks to provide tax credit incentives to film, television, digital and other media production in Florida.  The production industry employs thousands of Floridians and represents many millions of dollars in economic impact, but has been losing a devastating portion of these jobs and this revenue to competing states which have aggressive tax credit incentive programs that Florida lacks.  The potential exists for thousands of jobs to be regained and hundreds of millions of dollars to be infused into Florida’s economy if tax credit incentives are fully mobilized in this state. FEDERAL PROGRAMS TO FUND INNOVATIVE SMALL BUSINESSES
SBIR / STTR
Proposal Writing Workshop

                               May 13, 2010 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

What is SBIR and STTR? SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) and STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) programs are federally funded R&D grants and contracts targeted to the small business community. Over $2.5 billion is available annually from 11 federal agencies to fund development of new technology and products.

Why should I attend this workshop? Learning “how” is half the battle. This workshop is specifically designed to lead you step-by-step through the process of applying for these grants. The agenda includes: Overview of SBIR/STTR programs, Proposal Strategies, Drafting the Phase I proposal, Reviewing and Debriefing the Phase I proposal, and a Critique of an Actual SBIR Proposal.

Who should attend? Entrepreneurs and small business owners (primarily American owned & under 500 employees) and anyone interested in learning how to access this funding to start or
expand their business.

Who is teaching this workshop? Jim Greenwood of Greenwood Consulting Group will lead the workshop. He is a renowned SBIR/STTR trainer and consultant recognized for his ability to break down the “complexity” of the application process to practical steps to position potential applicants for successful proposals and awards.

What else? All workshop participants will receive a binder with all materials presented at workshop. In addition, Jim Greenwood will critique a draft or previously submitted Phase I SBIR/STTR proposal for any attendee at no cost up to one year from the workshop and will, within reason, respond to e-mail questions from participants.
