Investor Spotlight: PPi Technologies Global Expands Through Packaging Innovation

Charles and Stuart Murray
PPi Technologies Global

R. Charles Murray (left), chairman and CEO, says the family-owned and operated company relied on the EDC of Sarasota County to assist in the recent expansion by facilitating permitting and keeping the project on track. “The EDC was very helpful,” he said.

Everyone has seen kids’ juice drinks in foil pouches, but can you imagine beer, wine and cocktails delivered in similar packaging? The imaginative entrepreneurs at PPi Technologies Global (PPiTG) already have, and are providing the high-tech equipment to package them, as well as selling the cocktail product through a separate public company.

From freezer to microwave, dinners to cake frosting, water to dental hygiene products, PPiTG packaging innovations are either in or coming to a supermarket near you. A past winner of the Technology Company of the Year award in Sarasota County, PPiTG has created a leading-edge technological niche in the packaging machinery industry.

PPiTG’s 40 employees (33 in Sarasota) are expected to generate $30 million annually in sales, virtually all of that outside the local market in sales to Fortune 500 consumer product manufacturers. The pace of growth led the company to renovate 50,000 sq. ft. for manufacturing and to expand recently into an additional 25,000 sq. ft. The new space hosts customers who want to see the machinery in action before buying or who want to test packaging for new products in secrecy.

R. Charles Murray, chairman and CEO, says the family-owned and operated company relied on the EDC of Sarasota County to assist in the recent expansion by facilitating permitting and keeping the project on track. “The EDC was very helpful,” he said.

To market the ShotPak cocktail product, the family recently spun off a public company trading under the symbol SHTP.PK on the OTC exchange. “It’s a penny stock now, but we are excited about the prospects,” Murray said.
