EDC Seeking Outstanding Sarasota County Businesses The Economic Development Corporation announced a call for nominations for the 2009 Hall of Fame Awards. Applications must be submitted by June 30. Application guidelines are available online.
New categories were created for this year’s competition, which marks the 22nd anniversary for the awards program that recognizes excellence among Sarasota County businesses. Award winners will be announced in the following categories at a luncheon on September 25 at the Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota:
Entrepreneur - for businesses that are in their first five years of operation
Innovation - for businesses that have innovated their company through a product, service, process, technology or partnership
Green to Gold - for businesses that develop green products, services, processes, technologies or ways of doing business
Export Excellence - for businesses that currently export their product or service internationally
John Cox Community Partner Award - recognizes an outstanding nonprofit that supports economic development or improves the area's quality of life and helps to make Sarasota County an attractive place to live and work

West Africa Regional Conference The Florida Delegation of the Southeast U.S./Japan Association will hold the 6th Florida-Japan Summit at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville this coming June 30, 2009.
The half-day program will feature a keynote address by the Honorable Hiroshi Yamaguchi of the Consulate General of Japan in Miami, along with informational panel sessions on Florida-Japan bilateral relations in the areas of business, education, and tourism.
There is a registration fee of $20, which includes the networking reception. Advanced registration and payment confirmation are required due to limited space.
