Beyond the Jetsons: Sci-Fi , Fantasy and Futuristic Themed Film Mixer Set for August 17
The Sarasota County Film and Entertainment Office (SCFEO) will hold a sci-fi, fantasy and futuristic themed networking mixer for community members and film, television, and media production professionals on Monday, August 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Lakewood Ranch Cinemas, 10715 Rodeo Drive, Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
Highlights include: • A representative from the Digital Animation and Visual Effects (DAVE) School at Universal Studios Florida will share information about a new Star Trek series and the special effects used in its production.
• Janny Wurts, a best-selling fantasy writer and her husband Don Maitz, an illustrator with credits including, Jimmy Neutron and Ant Bully, will discuss how fantasy novels and art are crossing over into film and new media production.
• Sarasota’s Brian Zajac of 3DAS will speak about 3D’s role is changing the world of media and its applications in business. Zajac will also provide an update on the Special Interest Group on Graphics and Interactive Techniques, better known as SIGGRAPH.

Costa Rica and Panama Export Sales Mission Enterprise Florida will hold an export sales mission to Costa Rica and Panama December 6-11, 2009. Participation will be limited to a total of 15 Florida manufacturers, distributors, exporters and service companies who best meet the participation criteria. Selection of these firms will be on a first come, first served basis.
