Technology Transfer Panel Announced The EDC will hold a breakfast, featuring information about the technology transfer process from universities to businesses at 7:45 a.m., March.10 at University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, Fla.
The event will feature a panel discussion with:
Valerie McDevitt, assistant vice president for Research in the Division of Patents & Licensing, at the University of South Florida.
Thomas McLain, M.B.A,, is Chief Executive Officer of Claro Scientific and has over twenty years of experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and consumer products industries. Most recently he has served as a consultant to early stage biotechnology, medical device, and healthcare services companies.
Stephen Sundarrao, the Associate Director of the Center for Rehabilitation Engineering and Technology at the University of South Florida’s College of Engineering and CEO of Rehab Ideas, a company formed in collaboration with USF to commercialize innovative rehabilitation technologies developed at USF.
David Fries, currently is Head of the Ecosystems Technology Group at University of South Florida (USF) Marine Sciences. He was an original member of the Center for Ocean Technology at USF. He is the initiator of USF’s MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) Program. He held a past appointment at Sandia National Laboratories/Lockheed Martin. Currently David is an Entrepreneur in Residence at USF.
The moderator will be Anton Hopen, intellectual property attorney and founder of Innovation Express, which teaches young students about Intellectual Property Law.

EDC Sarasota County to Host Global Forecast March Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County (EDC) will hold the Global Economic Forecast from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on March 16 at the State College of Florida, 7131 Professional Parkway, Lakewood Ranch, Fla. The event will feature presentations by Manny Mencia, senior vice president, international trade and business development, Enterprise Florida; Z. Joe Kulenovic, senior director, strategic and market analysis, Enterprise Florida and Dr. Graham Toft, GrowthEconomics, Inc.
Presenters will discuss the global economic trends, overseas growth opportunities, the state’s export stimulus programs and how local businesses can position their companies to take advantage of the global economy. Smith & Associates Launches Custom Publications EDC Investor Stephen A. Smith & Associates Advertising has been selected to develop custom publications for two healthcare facilities in the Tampa Bay region. The USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute and Florida Hospital Zephyrhills have both selected the marketing communications firm to develop custom publications to address strategic communications objectives.
